The DAV is a non-profit association which exists to promote debate. It is the peak debating body in Victoria and runs large competitions for adults and for schools across Victoria. It provides training and resources for debaters, teachers and adjudicators.

Training and Adjudicator Services

The DAV offers a variety of training and adjudicator services to primary and secondary schools across Victoria. For more information, please download our Training and Adjudicator Services Brochure.


The standard training rate is $80 for the first hour and $60 for any hour thereafter.

There will be an additional premium charged for bookings made at short notice.

  • $40 for bookings made within 48 hours.
  • $80 for bookings made within 24 hours.
  • Term 1 Training Special
    If you would like to arrange for an accredited DAV trainer to come to your school to assist your teams in preparing for the 2022 competition, please enter your booking requests as early as possible, as availability is limited. These sessions are available at the special price of $60 per hour, per trainer in February and March only. We recommend one trainer for each group of 12 students.

    Preseason Training

    We will also be offering some open online training sessions prior to the Schools Competition. "Debating Basics" will cover the rules and format of 3-on-3 debating for new debaters. "Case preparation" sessions will provide instruction on how to approach preparing for debates, with a focus on the round 1 topic for each grade.

  • Debating Basics: Sunday 13 Feb, 11am and Saturday 19 Feb, 11am
  • Case preparation - D grade: Monday 14 Feb, 4:30pm
  • Case preparation - C grade: Tuesday 15 Feb, 4:30pm
  • Case preparation - B grade: Monday 14 Feb, 7pm
  • Case preparation - A grade: Wednesday 16 Feb, 4:30pm
  • Students can register for these sessions individually at a cost of $10 per student per session. Registration can be completed here.
