Welcome to the DAV Website
The DAV is a non-profit association which exists to promote debate. It is the peak debating body in Victoria and runs large competitions for adults and for schools across Victoria. It provides training and resources for debaters, teachers and adjudicators.
DAV Swannie Award Winners
Named after Australian debating legend Alan Swanwick, the Swannie Awards have been for many years a way of recognising the best speakers in the DAV Schools Competition.

Listed below are some of the winners of the Swannie Awards, awarded for the best speakers in each grade across the whole of the Schools Competition. Many of these speakers have gone on to have illustrious debating careers, representing schools, universities, Victoria, and Australia... and of course many others have experienced success in other walks of life.

If a year is missing from this list, rest assured that we're looking through our records and doing our best to fill in the gaps! We'd be very interested to hear from anyone who has won a Swannie Award, particularly in the 1990s or earlier: please contact debater@netspace.net.au and let us know what you're up to now!
